C95500 (NAB)
A strong cast nickel-aluminum bronze
Typical values for the temper in the title
C95500 is a cast nickel-aluminum bronze with about 11% aluminum, about 4% iron and about 4% nickel. It is among the strongest and hardest bronzes (minimum 620 MPa sand cast), resistant to wear and impact, and corrosion resistant in seawater. It can be heat treated for even higher strength.
It is used for heavy-duty bushings and bearings, gears and worm drives, valve seats and guides, and parts in aerospace and defense.

Tempers and heat treatment
Cast bronzes are ordered by casting method (sand, centrifugal, continuous), and minimum properties differ for each method.
| Condition | Properties | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Sand cast | Rm ≥620, Rp ≥275 MPa | cast parts |
| Cast and heat treated (TQ50) | Rm about 760 MPa | maximum load |
| Continuous cast (B505) | bars and bushings | machining into parts |
Applications
- Heavy-duty bushings and bearings
- Gears and worm wheels
- Valve seats
- Landing gear parts
- Guides and wear liners
Fabrication
Machining
Moderate (about 50%). Strong and hard, so sharp tools and a rigid machine.
Welding
Good by electric arc. Not oxyacetylene.
Corrosion
Highly resistant in seawater, but prone to "dealuminification" if heat treatment or composition is wrong.
Compared with similar materials
| Material | Rm / Rp0.2 | Welding | When it is the better choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| C95800 (NAB) | ≥585 MPa (B148) / ≥240 MPa (B148) | Good | C95800: less aluminum, more ductile, for propellers · material page |
| C954 | 552–690 / 241–379 MPa | Excellent | C95400: without nickel, cheaper · material page |
| C630 (NAB) | 620–720 / 280–380 MPa | Excellent | C63000: wrought NAB (not cast) · material page |
Common mistakes
Using it for a propeller
C95800 is better, more ductile.
Oxyacetylene welding
Not recommended.
Ignoring heat treatment
Wrong treatment increases dealuminification.
